Every bag we throw away has a life after it leaves our hands — someone sorts it, something processes it, and somewhere it ends up. Our new waste poster is a reminder that small habits (rinsing a yoghurt tub, separating banana peels from plastic, strapping down a bin lid) make a real difference to the people handling our waste and the wildlife around us. A single contaminated recycling bag can spoil an entire load, and an unsecured bin can turn into a baboon's afternoon snack, so these little steps matter more than they seem.
The poster breaks things down into five easy categories (compost, recycling, general waste, batteries/e-waste, and septic systems) with clear contacts for anyone needing supplies or support (straps, enzymes, compost). Please take a moment to look it over and keep it handy. Thanks, as always, for playing your part in keeping our village cleaner and kinder to everyone on the other side of the bin.
Our gardens are more than personal spaces, they're part of a wider ecosystem that supports birds, insects, and small wildlife across the Peninsula. This plant guide is a valuable tool because it groups species by habitat (strandveld, fynbos, wetland, dune, shade) so residents can choose plants that are naturally suited to their specific spot, meaning less watering, less fuss, and better survival rates. Many of these species (like Wild Olive, Erica, and Protea varieties) also provide essential food and shelter for local pollinators and birds, helping keep our local biodiversity intact. Being mindful about what we plant matters just as much as what we avoid: invasive species like Port Jackson, Rooikrans, and Mirror Bush spread aggressively, crowd out indigenous vegetation, guzzle scarce water, and can increase fire risk. By choosing indigenous, water-wise plants and steering clear of invasives, each garden becomes a small but meaningful contribution to protecting the unique character and ecology of our village.

Bins should not be put out before 06h00 on Tuesdays, and should be baboon-proof 😁
